Mathematics
In AusVELS there are three Content Strands- Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry & Statistic & Probability, which is exactly the same as the Australian Curriculum.
These Content Strands have been divided into Sub-strands across the levels from Foundation to Level 6. In Number & Algebra the substrands are Number & Place Value, Fractions & Decimals, Money & Financial Mathematics & Patterns & Algebra.
There are four ‘proficiency strands’ that are part of the Australian Mathematics curriculum: understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning.
These replace the Working Mathematically dimension that was an important part of VELS.
In the same way that Working Mathematically was part of how the content dimensions were taught, the proficiency strands are part of how the contents strands in the AusVELS: Mathematics will be taught.
The proficiencies reinforce the significance of working mathematically within the content and describe how the content is explored or developed.
